Wrekin College Swimming Club SquadOn the 21st - 23rd January some of the Wrekin College Swimming Club members headed to the Level 1 - City of Liverpool Winter Distance Meet held at the Liverpool Aquatics Centre.

This was our first competition after the Christmas break and Wrekin College swimmers where back in fine form. This was our first time competing in this part of the country and it was good to compete against different swimming clubs and swimmers to gain valuable experience at this higher level.

We had some great results with 45 Personal Bests (PBs) achieved, 26 Medals Won, 8 Midland District Qualifying Times (MDQT) and 1 National Qualifying Times (NQT).

One of the highlight of the weekend was Alexandra Harris (Aged 13) who gained her first National Qualifying Time (NQT) for 2011 in the 800m Freestyle event with a time of 9:25.32 winning the Silver medal.  In total Alexandra won 2 Gold and 1 Silver and also gained two more British Champion Qualifying Times (BCQT) to add the other two she has already gained.

Congratulations to Jon Mills (Aged 10) who gained his first ever Midland Qualifying Time (MQT) in the 200m Backstroke event and picking up the Bronze medal.

Other notable swims over the weekend were from Luke Smith (Aged 9) who won an amazing 4 Silver mdeals and 1 Bronze, Rebecca Woolley (Aged 10) who won 2 Gold, 1 Silver and a Bronze and Holly Townson who although not in the medals swam some truly exceptional races and smashed her previous times gaining massive PB's.

Youth Coach David Clarke said:
Even though we only had a small squad of swimmers we still managed to finish in 8th place out of 33 teams.

Well done to everyone, it was a excellent start to the year.
