About Our Club

The Triathlon section of the club is very fortunate to have the services of keen volunteer coaches who develop and deliver programmes to meet the varied needs of our members.  We work closely with the club's swimming coaches to align schedules for all abilities in the multi sport event.

Melanie Humphreys
Melanie Humphreys

Melanie completed her first triathlon in 1984 and has dabbled ever since! In 2007 she qualified for the World Championships in Hamburg, Germany; and continues to participate in many events ranging from sprint to standard distance triathlons and aquathlons.

As a coach Melanie is responsible for the co-ordination and development of the junior section within the club, particularly with regards to swimming and running. Her enthusiastic manner and approach has encouraged many new youngsters into the sport and enabled them to achieve their targets.

Phil Humphreys
Phil Humphreys

Phil is a PE & Maths teacher at a local secondary school and comes from an adventure racing background. He founded ACE Races in 1998 – the UKs first company to organise adventure races; going on to stage the World Adventure Racing Championships in Scotland in 2007.

He has participated in many adventure races and more recently triathlons. His greatest achievement was a 10th place finish in the Adidas Terrex World Series race 2010.

As a coach Phil is involved within the junior section of the club, with a particular interest in running and cycling. Being involved with the club since its inception, Phil has contributed to the rapid development and growth of the triathlon section.

Peter Grimsdale
Peter Grimsdale

Peter has always been heavily involved in a variety of sports, in particular playing rugby and cricket to county level. He has turned his attention to the world of multi discipline sports through the involvement of his daughters in the aquathlon events.

As an assistant coach Pete is involved within the junior section of the club, with a particular interest in running and swimming. Pete is keen to get as many youngsters involved in the club as possible making participation fun and enjoyable for all.

Robert Binks
Robert Binks

Robert is currently employed as a sports assistant within Wrekin College Sports Centre. He has a background in ice hockey and rugby, where he achieved national standards. As an assistant coach Rob is currently involved in supporting the junior section. He has a keen interest in participating within triathlons.
