During the 23rd, 24th & 25th of April, Wrekin College Swimming & Triathlon Club headed to Leicester to compete in the City of Leicester Age Group 2010 open meet held at the Braunstone Leisure Centre.  This was the first club gala we've attended since our successful debut at the County Championships, so the pressure was on all our swimmers to prove themselves outside the county in this very prestigious open meet, swimming against the best swimmers from all the top clubs in the Midlands.

What a long weekend...but what a result.

Every swimmer without exception achieved new personal bests despite the constant interruptions of the faulty fire alarm on the Sunday, (my ears are still ringing!!!) and everyone seemed to have a brilliant time. Oh, have I mentioned about our massive haul of 17 medals, 43 personal bests (PBs) and the new National Qualifying Time (NQT) we also achieved.

Alexandra Harris (Aged 12) topped our medals tally with 1 Gold and 4 Silver, whilst fellow competitor Holly Barnett (Aged 12) also walked away with an incredible 2 Gold and 1 Silver.  Shannon Hartley-Cain (Aged 14) collected a Silver and Bronze whilst Charles Percox (Aged 10) picked up 2 Bronze.  Paige Norry-Addison (Aged 11) won 1 Silver along with Rebecca Wolly (Aged 10) who received a Bronze.

However the icing on the cake "so to speak" was from Megan Carline (Aged 11) who won 1 Silver and 2 Bronze and also achieved her second National Qualifying Time (NQT) of the year in the 400M Freestyle event with a time of 4:51.23 under the watchful eyes of her proud coach Rachel Reilly.

Other notable swims from the weekend was the well deserved Personal Best swam by Alice Hockenhull (Aged 16) in the 400M Freestyle and the valiant efforts of Sophia Baig (Aged 12) and Macauley Carline (Aged 13) that just missed out on gaining additional Midland Qualifying Time by just a fraction of a second.

Congratulations to all our swimmers for a wonderful weekend of swimming.
Not forgetting the efforts of our coaches Dave Clarke and Rachel Reilly who between them continue to raise the standard of swimming in the county allowing our children to compete against the best swimmers not only in the Midlands but also within the Country. With a special mention to pool side helps Andrew Harris and Stewart Carline who assisted on Sunday along with the ever vocal balcony of loyal supporters ~ Thank You.
