Wrekin College Swim Club is affiliated to the British Triathlon Federation: http://www.britishtriathlon.org and has a very active membership.  The triathlon section is an open, friendly, and an inclusive club consisting of both adult and junior members.  Our training sessions are based at the Wrekin College site for both swimming and running. We welcome everyone interested in multisport events such as aquathlon, duathlon and triathlon.  We aim to support novices through to their first multisport event and beyond.  We also aim to perform well at top level competitions.

Although aquathlons and triathlons are popular with many adult and junior amateur athletes, it is also a professional event – with triathlon featuring within the Olympics. There are Local, Regional, British, European and World Aquathlon & Triathlon Championships each year.  The European and World Championships demand regional qualification to enter and are very popular with British age-groupers

What equipment will you need?

You won't need as much equipment for an aquathlon as you would for a triathlon. However, at the very least you will need goggles, a swimsuit (or trisuit), and running shoes. If you are swimming in open water or during a month when the water is cold, you might want to purchase a wetsuit as well.  But there are many events that are pool based.

tri_logoHow far do you have to swim and run?

Practice Makes Perfect!

Training for an aquathlon can be fun because you can divide your focus between two sports and get pretty good at both of them – without needing to be elite in either!  Within aquathlon there is a third discipline – which is often overlooked! – This is the transition.  It's always a good idea to spend some time practicing transitions, since it's difficult to put on your running shoes and race number when you get out of the water.

Most junior races take place within a pool based swim.  However, older juniors and seniors may wish to take part in aquathlons that have open water swims.  In which case, you will also want to practice swimming in open water. In fact, it's a good idea to practice in the type of water you'll be swimming in, since rivers, lakes and the sea all present their own advantages and challenges.
