Midland Age Group Championships 2011 Print

Age Group Coach Rachel Reilly Over the two weekends of the 4th & 5th and 11th & 12th June 2011, Wrekin College Swimming & Triathlon Club BAGCAT squad attended the Midlands Age Group Championships held at the 50M international pool in the City of Coventry.

First Weekend - 4th & 5th July 2011

Rachel Reilly was delighted with her swimmers performances over the first weekend of the Midland Bagcat Championships. The results speak for themselves with swimmers achieving personal best times and medal places.  Of the twelve swimmers competing seven finished within the top eight positions; Paige Norry-Addison (Aged 12) gained her first National Qualifying Time (NQT) for 100m Butterfly; Holly Barnett (Aged 13), Luke Smith (Aged 10) and Macauley Carline (Aged 14) all qualified for the finals.

Congratulations also to Holly Townson (Aged 10), Luke Smith, Paige Norry-Addison and Holly Barnett who all won bronze medals.

Charlie Percox (Aged 11), Jon Mills (Aged 11), Jacob Blakemore (Aged 11) and Connie Sanders (Aged 11) also swam and gained new personal best times (PBs).

Wrekin Score Hat-Trick at Liverpool Print

Wrekin College Swimming & Triathlon Club SquadOn the 21st - 23rd January some of the Wrekin College Swimming & Triathlon Club members headed to the Level 1 - City of Liverpool Winter Distance Meet held at the Liverpool Aquatics Centre.

This was our first competition after the Christmas break and Wrekin College swimmers where back in fine form. This was our first time competing in this part of the country and it was good to compete against different swimming clubs and swimmers to gain valuable experience at this higher level.

We had some great results with 45 Personal Bests (PBs) achieved, 26 Medals Won, 8 Midland District Qualifying Times (MDQT) and 1 National Qualifying Times (NQT).

One of the highlight of the weekend was Alexandra Harris (Aged 13) who gained her first National Qualifying Time (NQT) for 2011 in the 800m Freestyle event with a time of 9:25.32 winning the Silver medal.  In total Alexandra won 2 Gold and 1 Silver and also gained two more British Champion Qualifying Times (BCQT) to add the other two she has already gained.

Congratulations to Jon Mills (Aged 10) who gained his first ever Midland Qualifying Time (MQT) in the 200m Backstroke event and picking up the Bronze medal.

Other notable swims over the weekend were from Luke Smith (Aged 9) who won an amazing 4 Silver mdeals and 1 Bronze, Rebecca Woolley (Aged 10) who won 2 Gold, 1 Silver and a Bronze and Holly Townson who although not in the medals swam some truly exceptional races and smashed her previous times gaining massive PB's.

Midland Short Course Championships 2010 Print

midlandbwOn the 6th - 7th November members of the Wrekin College Swimming & Triathlon Club attended the Midland Short Course Championships held at the Corby International Pool in Corby.  All our swimmers raised their game and performed well at the weekend with all of them gaining Personal Bests. The best performance of the weekend was from our girls 4 x 100M Freestyle Relay Team consisting of (Maddy, Alex, Olivia and Alice) who beat many top teams to finish fourth in a time of 4.01:70.

One other memorable performance was from Maddy who gained a Silver medal in the junior age group (15 Years & Under) 100M Freestyle event and finished in a incredible time of 58:99.

Swimmers Triumph at the County Championships Print

Wrekin College Swimming & Triathlon Club SquadIn only their second year of competing Wrekin College Swimming & Triathlon Club swimmers proved they are, once again, at the top of the league.  The girls performed exceptionally well, winning every age category, except the 14-year age group where the club did not enter a swimmer.

Such is the talent in the Club that five swimmers alone gained 13 County records between them, 18 swimmers gained 84 Midland District qualifying times and one swimmer a National qualifying time.  The overall medal tally was impressive: 77 Gold, 49 Silver and 23 Bronze.

Another Clean Sweep at Stafford Print

Wrekin College Swimming & Triathlon Club SquadOn the 4th - 5th December Wrekin College Swimming & Triathlon Club braved the cold weather and headed to the Stafford Apex 2010 Long Distance Open Meet held at the Stafford Leisure Centre.

The weekend started with young Luke Smith (Aged 9) in fantastic form winning Silver in the first event which was the 400M Freestyle.  Congratulations to Maddy Tracey (Aged 15) who gained her first National Qualifying Time (NQT) of 2011 in the 400m Individual Medley event with a time of 4:57.76 and also securing the Gold.  In total Maddy won 4 Gold and 1 Silver.

Our most successful swimmer was Alexandra Harris (Aged 13) who won an incredible 7 Gold and 1 Silver and was also crowned Top 12 & Over Girl at the event ~ an amazing achievement ~ Well Done.

Other notable swims over the weekend was Megan Carline (Aged 12) who won Silver in the 400m Freestyle event and also gained her second NQT of 2011 with a time of 4:38.48.

Overall it was another successful weekend of swimming for Wrekin College Swimming & Triathlon Club who managed to notch up 94 Personal Bests (PB), 54 Medals, 47 Midland District Qualifying Times (MDQT) and 2 National Qualifying Times (NQT).

To top of the weekend, at the end of the proceedings Wrekin College Swimming & Triathlon Club were also awarded the Top Club Trophy, beating other much larger and more established clubs and proving why we are the Top Club in the area.

7th Chase Reobuck Open Meet Print

medalsOn the 23rd - 24th October members of the Wrekin College Swimming & Triathlon Club attended the 7th Chase Roebuck Open Meet held at Stafford.  The aim of this weekend at Chase and last weekend at Lincoln Vulcans was to give our swimmers race practice, but you can see from their results that they are all in fine form, with all of them competing well by producing many PB's and medels along the way.

Swim of the day at Chase was the clash between the two sisters Sophia and Zohra. They had to battle it out fighting next to each other in the 200M Breaststroke where older sister Zohra got the touch by two tenths of a second.
