Leicester Age Group Meet 2010 Print

During the 23rd, 24th & 25th of April, Wrekin College Swimming & Triathlon Club headed to Leicester to compete in the City of Leicester Age Group 2010 open meet held at the Braunstone Leisure Centre.  This was the first club gala we've attended since our successful debut at the County Championships, so the pressure was on all our swimmers to prove themselves outside the county in this very prestigious open meet, swimming against the best swimmers from all the top clubs in the Midlands.

What a long weekend...but what a result.

Every swimmer without exception achieved new personal bests despite the constant interruptions of the faulty fire alarm on the Sunday, (my ears are still ringing!!!) and everyone seemed to have a brilliant time. Oh, have I mentioned about our massive haul of 17 medals, 43 personal bests (PBs) and the new National Qualifying Time (NQT) we also achieved.

Welsh Success For Swimmers Print

Alexandra HarrisOver the Easter weekend Jack Sanders (Aged 12), Alexandra Harris (Aged 12) and Olivia Phoenix (Aged 14) competed in the 4 day Welsh National Age Group Championships held in Swansea accompanied by their coaches Rachel and Dave.
 
Jack Sanders achieved a well deserved Personal Best (PB) in the boys 200M Breaststroke event with a long course time of 1:30.57.

Olivia Phoenix swam a fantastic final in the 200M Backstroke event bringing home a Bronze medal in a National Qualifying Time (NQT) of 2:27.45 (Long Course).

Alexandra Harris became the Welsh Nationals 800M Freestyle champion gaining the Gold medal and her first ever National Qualifying Time (NQT) in a time of 9:38.76 and then went on to secure her second National Qualifying Time (NQT) in the 200M Freestyle with a time of 2:13.44 (Long Course).  Alexandra also achieved a further 3 medals with the Silver Medal in the 400M Freestyle and Bronze in both the 100M and 200M Backstroke.

County Summary - 1st Weekend Print

Maddy Tracy On the 27th and 28th of February, the town of Market Drayton was besieged with swimmers from all over the county taking part in the 2010 Shropshire County Championships Gala.   This was the first time Wrekin College Swimming & Triathlon Club had competed in the "Counties" as a club and fielded a team of 28 swimmers in total.

Although our numbers may have seemed low compared to other more established clubs in the County, our medals tally certainly wasn't with an unbelievable 58 medals won and an even more incredible 107 personal bests [PB's] swam over the weekend.

Emma Wins Gold Print

medal_goldOn Saturday 5th December 2009 Wrekin College Swimmer Emma Sans attended the Shrewsbury ASC Evolution Open Meet held at Shrewsbury Baths.

Overall 10 Clubs took part from as far afield as Liverpool and out of the 6 events Emma entered she gained 4 PB's and took Gold in both the 50M and 200M Breaststroke and a Bronze in the 200 IM.

County Summary - 2nd Weekend Print

Wrekin College Swimming & Triathlon Club SquadOn the 13th and 14th of March Wrekin College Swimming & Triathlon Club attended the final weekend of this years Shropshire County Championships held at Market Drayton.  Once again our swimmers continued where they left off with Rebecca Woolley (Aged 10) picking up Gold in the first event; the 200m Butterfly.  This winning streak continued with Paige Norry-Addison (Aged 11) also collecting Gold and smashing the county record, closely followed by Alexandra Harris (Aged 12) and Maddy Tracy (Aged 14) also all collecting Gold in the 200m Butterfly event. 

The medals and county records continued with 53 medals won and an impressive 71 personal bests [PB's] also swam over the weekend.

Wrekin Thrill at Brierley Hill Print

On the 23rd-24thmedals January 2010 Wrekin College Swimmers were in action again at the 13th Brierley Hill Open Meet held at Wolverhampton Central Baths.

As the first club attended Open Meet of 2010, the main aim of this open meet was for "Practice" to allow some of our younger swimmers race experience for the upcoming Counties, and to allow some of our more competitive swimmers another chance at gaining Regional or National qualifying times.

Overall Wrekin College Swimmers achieved a very impressive medals tally of 5 Gold, 9 Silver and 12 Bronze our best medals tally so far, outstanding 63 Personal Best's (PB's) and 6 New Midland Qualifying times.

Wrekin Clean Up at Stafford Print

On the 6th - 8thmedals December 2009 Wrekin College Swimmers were in action at the Stafford Apex 2009 Long Distance Open Meet held at Stafford Leisure Centre.

Olivia Phoenix was on top form and won an amazing medal haul of 4 Gold and 2 Bronze Medals whilst Madelaine Tracy won 1 Gold and 2 Silver Medals. Also picking up Gold Medals at the event were Alexandra Harris and Charlotte Humphreys.

Fellow Squad Members Paige Norry-Addison also won 1 Silver and 1 Bronze whilst Olivia Simmonds won 1 Bronze.

Overall Wrekin College Swimmers achieved and impressive medals tally of 7 Gold, 3 Silver and 4 Bronze. Together with 25 Midland District Qualifying Times (MDQT's) and an unbelievable 85 Personal Best's (PB's).

Apart from those who did gain a MDQT over the weekend there were also many other swimmers who are now on the verge of achieving there or more qualifying times.
