On the 28th July - 1st August 2010 swimmers from Wrekin College Swimming & Triathlon Club attended the British Gas ASA National Age Group Championships (50M) 2010 held at Ponds Forge in Sheffield. The competition was attended by all the top qualifying swimmers in the country including swimmers from as far away as Guernsey, Belgium and Turkey to name but a few. This is the last event in the swimming calendar year, and a real achievement for all the swimmers that attended and the perfect setting to show off the immense ability of these young swimmers.
Day One - 28th July 2010 Megan Carline (Aged 11) started the proceedings in the first event of the Nationals in the 200M Individual Medley finishing with a new personal best (PB) time of 2:42.59, and also qualifying for the finals to be swam in the evening. Later on that day, saw Paige Norry-Addison (Aged 11) and Lauren Holland (Aged 11) competing in the first heat of the 1500M Freestyle. The two swimmers both swam exceptionally, virtually stroke for stroke with each other for the first 1000M, when Paige just started to gain a slight advantage which she continued to build upon to the finish. Paige finished in a time of 19:53.72 gaining a 12 second PB and Lauren finished in a time of 20:00.43. Next up saw Megan also competing in the 1500M Freestyle event, Megan set off with a blistering pace and finished in a magnificent time of 18:55.11 setting a new 11 second PB and collecting the first ever National medal for the club with a Silver medal, narrowly missing out on the Gold by just 4 seconds. "Wow". Then up to race was Alexandra Harris (Aged 13) who again swam confidently and gained a 6 second PB in a time of 18:13.96. Finally, Megan swam in the finals of the 200M Individually Medley and after her performance in the 1500M still managed another PB with a time of 2:42.20 and secured 7th position overall. What an amazing start to the Nationals.

On the 3rd - 7th August 2010 swimmers from Wrekin College Swimming & Triathlon Club youth squad coached by David Clarke attended the British Gas ASA National Youth Championships (50M) 2010 held at Ponds Forge in Sheffield. This competition follows the Age Group Championships which was held the week before. Attending this years were Olivia Phoenix (Aged 14), Maddy Tracy (Aged 15) and Alice Cousins (Aged 16) who have all worked extremely hard during the year to reach these championships.
Day One - 3rd August 2010 The youth championships started with the 400M Individual Medley event with Wrekin College being represented by both Maddy and Alice. Maddy swam a time of 5:16.74 whilst Alice swam 5:17.99 although both times where just outside there PBs both girls fought hard in this tough middle distance event as they raced seasoned International swimmers. Great job girls and a great start to the meet!
Next in action was Olivia in the 200M Backstroke event. Olivia swam a time of 2:29.94 which was just off her PB of 2:27.49. This event was very competitive with some tough competition from both British and non-British swimmers. Although Olivia didn't qualify for the final of this event, this was a brilliant swim and a great way to finish off a very successful season for her.
This was a solid start from our Youths with some impressive swims from our girls. These Championships are always very competitive, and qualifying for these Championships is not something that comes easily, and shows the amount of dedication these young swimmers have shown over the season - let's keep it up for next season!!
