Paige Attends England Talent Camp Print
Swimming Club News
Written by Stewart Carline

Paige Norry-Addison Congratulations to Wrekin College Swimming Clubs very own Paige Norry-Addison (Aged 13) who has been selected to attend the ASA England Talent Development Programme and will attend training camps during September and December 2011 at Coventry Leisure Centre along with all the other top swimmers from within the West Midlands Region.

The camp will be predominately skill based and be a positive experience for the swimmers. The ASA Talent Development Programme envisage the camp to be a stepping stone for these swimmers to move forward with there swimming careers, and hopefully onto podium success.

Thousands of children go through the ASA's club structure every year but only a handful ever progress to national squads. The ASA has a development pathway to ensure that once a child's talent is identified it is nurtured to help them reach their full potential.

As a sport it can take 10 years to produce a champion so in most cases a youngster will be 'spotted' within their club environment and nurtured within their club.

Alexandra Harris Alexandra Harris (Aged 13) made swimming history becoming the first girl from a Shropshire club to qualify for the British Gas British Championships - no mean feat for a 13 year old who only started swimming two years ago.

Alex qualified in four events but only competed in three.  It is a daunting and serious competition with none of the light atmosphere of the Bagcats or National youth events.  Depsite not swimming her best, Alex gained a huge amount of experience; as one of the youngest swimmers in the competition she had the opportunity to compete with some of the UK's most elite swimmers including Rebecca Adlington and Fran Halsall.

Trios Beacon Age Group Call Up Print
Swimming Club News
Written by Stewart Carline
asalogoCongratulations to Megan Carline (Aged 12), Lauren Holland (Aged 12) and Paige Norry-Addison (Aged 12) from the Wrekin College Swimming Club on being selected to attend the ASA West Midlands Beacon Medley Age Group training programme being held at Coventry during November, January and May. These swimmers were all selected in recognition for their excellent performances in the ASA National Age Group Championships held in July and August earlier in the year and is a real achievement.

The Beacon Medley programme was developed to provide training and coaching opportunities within the region, to swimmers that have the potential to reach the higher levels of swimming in the future. The aim of the camp is not only to provide swimmers with the opportunity to train in a long course pool, but also give swimmers and coaches the necessary education and tools in areas such as nutrition, injury prevention, and land based training in order to give the swimmers the very best chance to reach their goals. The camps are also designed to give an insight of what to expect on the ASA Regional Talent Development camps that also run every year.

Our Age Group Coach Rachel Reilly has also been selected to attend the programme to assist in the coaching.
