triathlon_logoSaturday 10th July 2010 saw the staging of the Wrekin College Swimming & Triathlon Club Summer Aquathlon, at Wrekin College. There was a fantastic representation from the club, with the majority competing within an aquathlon for the first time.

Distances for both the swim and run varied by age and many enjoyed the challenge of competitive swimming and running further than they had before! Distances were:

GroupAgeSwim (m)
Run (m)
Tristar Start850600
Tristar 19 / 101501500
Tristar 211 / 122002000
Tristar 313 / 143003000
Youth15 / 164003000

Starting the afternoon's racing off and competing in his first ever aquathlon Jamie Beebee set a blistering pace for a convincing win in the Youth category claiming fastest swim and run of the day! This was followed up by two brilliant performances within the Tristar 3 categories with Macauley Carline and Holly Barnett both claiming first place in their races – these were very competitive categories and both did exceptionally well in their first aquathlon.

Leicester Age Group Meet 2010 Print E-mail
During the 23rd, 24th & 25th of April, Wrekin College Swimming Club headed to Leicester to compete in the City of Leicester Age Group 2010 open meet held at the Braunstone Leisure Centre.  This was the first club gala we've attended since our successful debut at the County Championships, so the pressure was on all our swimmers to prove themselves outside the county in this very prestigious open meet, swimming against the best swimmers from all the top clubs in the Midlands.

What a long weekend...but what a result.

Every swimmer without exception achieved new personal bests despite the constant interruptions of the faulty fire alarm on the Sunday, (my ears are still ringing!!!) and everyone seemed to have a brilliant time. Oh, have I mentioned about our massive haul of 17 medals, 43 personal bests (PBs) and the new National Qualifying Time (NQT) we also achieved.

Wrekin Triumph at Oswestry Aquathlon Print E-mail
On the 16th May, Wrekin College triathletes enjoyed a spectacular morning of racing at the Oswestry Childrens Aquathlon held at Morton Hall School near Oswestry.  In what proved to be the most popular race of the season so far, Wrekin racers held good form and determination to deliver the goods!

The Under 11 girls (Tristar 1) saw some fantastic racing, with seconds separating the top places. The distances were 150m swim and 1200m run; Jess Humphreys came 3rd (9mins, 12s), Tess Sanders 4th (9mins, 16s) and Charlotte Nicholl 6th (9mins, 39s).

Setting a blistering pace in the Under 13 boys (Tristar 2) Jack Sanders secured first place in a time of 10mins, 08s for the course of 200m swim and 1800m run.  This was the first aquathlon of the year for Charlotte, Tess and Jack.

Melanie Humphreys - Wrekin's Triathlon Secretary said:
All competitors performed really well and this was a great achievement!
